Configure Gnome default apps in KDE

Postby felixlinares » Fri Nov 09, 2012 20:24

Hello everyone,
I have firefox installed, Im using Sabayon X KDE, everything is ok but I have a little problem : In firefox when I want to open a PDF file for example and the dialog pops up the default program for opening PDF files is Inkscape instead Okular, tried to change this by checking file associations in KDE System settings but there Ocular is set as the default application so I figure it must be something related to Gnome since firefox is not a native KDE application. If someone could help me I'd be grateful ;)

Hi! I think this is an issue with Firefox. Here is what worked for me:
Under the Firefox menu choose 'Preferences'. Click the 'Applications' tab and look for 'pdf' in the list. The list on my Firefox sometimes takes 5-30 seconds to load, so just give it time for the list to populate if it is at first empty.
in the 'Action' column select the drop-down list and choose what you want to use. On my KDE system, GiMP was listed but not Okular. I chose 'other' and selected the okular binaray in /usr/bin (once you navigate to /usr/bin, just type 'okular' into the filter box and select 'Open'). Hopefully then all wil be as it should.

I just realized this post was from November--hopefully you've fixed it by then, and I hope this helps anyone else with the same issue. It used to bug me like crazy (open file location in download manager would open Thunar or Nautilus instead of Dolphin).
