error text appears when starting a terminal window [Solved]

Postby lupinehorror » Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:18

hi all.
just switched to sabayon from crunchbang...enjoying it so far.
however, when i open a terminal (using MATE version) the following text appears at the top (above the prompt)

bash: eval: line 28: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
bash: eval: line 28: `Usage: lesspipe <file>'

everything works normally, all packages are up to date, but this always displays. any ideas? have never seen this before (on any distro).
thanks.

Hi, did you edit, by any chance, your .bashrc file or bash profile?

hi...
no but it would have been left over from my previous install as i use a persistant /home partition

.bashrc had this in it...
Code: Select all
# make less more friendly for non-text input files, see lesspipe(1)
[ -x /usr/bin/lesspipe ] && eval "$(SHELL=/bin/sh lesspipe)"

and commenting the second line out sorted it! thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
sabayon on my desktop - debian on my servers
