How to remove pulseaudio without removing kde [Solved]

Postby desputin » Wed Nov 28, 2012 21:29

Hi,

I tried to remove pulseaudio because for some reason my external USB sound card only works well with alsa.

Anyway. If I remove PA KDE is removed too!!! This must be a bug or something but can anyone here tell me how to get rid of PA WITHOUT getting rid of KDE?

Best regards

some of your stuff have use flags about PA so you can not remove it

you can use --nodeps but than some stuf will not work :-)

solution is to notifi wich pakets are involfed and than emerge this without pa use flag, but this is horrible...

i think if you will have an gentoo without PA you must build a new world without useflag...

You just need to do the following as root user in a Konsole window:

Code: Select all
mv /usr/bin/pulseaudio /usr/bin/pulseaudio.bak

and reboot.

Yeah had the same problem. Was tinkering around getting rid of some noise in VLC and removed pulseaudio...
My problems are solved, but there should be some way to get KDE without Pulseaudio and just Alsa, right?

Only if you use Gentoo. Not with SL, in which packages that have a build-time option for PulseAudio have been built with that option selected.

desputin and steffie, please post in English in the English-language SL Forums. If you prefer to post in German then you need to use the German-language SL Forum.

Sorry, your're right :) I was in a hurry.

So:

Renaming the the pulseaudio file in the /usr/bin folder did the job!
Thanks!
