Kernel 3.6? [Solved]

Are there anything wrong with kernel 3.6? My computer hangs after I install it.

There are some attention: when I do equo update && equo upgrade this come up:

What does it mean? I have a AMD GPU.

Do you use the proprietary driver (x11-drivers/ati-drivers) or the open source driver (x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati)?
There should be no problem with the open source driver.

If you don't need the proprietary driver (afaik the open source driver is more stable but lacks 3D acceleration), you should remove them and use the open driver. If you need them (eg. for games) I can't help you because I'm using Nvidia.
But I think I've seen somewhere on the forum how to use them.

@ amandus: 1st: Did you read the notice? 2nd: Did you use kernel switcher to install the 3.6 kernel?


@ creh :The opensource ATI drivers have both 2d (KMS + X11) and 3d acceleration (mesa + gallium), just not as fast or as many features as the proprietary one, however that's changing very quickly as the gallium drivers mature.

What model of AMD ATI GPU are you using? If it is a 4000 Series or lower, try the following procedure.

1. Boot the LiveDVD you used to install SL, and chroot into your HDD installation: HOWTO: chroot from a LiveCD.

2. Make sure you have rolled everything to current:

equo update
equo upgrade
equo conf update
kernel-switcher switch linux-sabayon-3.6-r3
equo deptest
equo libtest

3. Follow the instructions except for No. 5 in the following post:

4. Exit the chroot environment as explained in the SL Wiki post referenced in Step 1 above, and reboot.
