Hallo...
First, pls connect your computer with ethernet to the Modem.
Can you open a console as root and then start
Code: Select all
pppoe-setup
?

Then you will see something like this:
Code: Select all
... # pppoe-setup
Welcome to the Roaring Penguin PPPoE client setup.  First, I will run
some checks on your system to make sure the PPPoE client is installed
properly...

Looks good!  Now, please enter some information:

USER NAME

>>> Enter your PPPoE user name (default bxxxnxnx@sympatico.ca):

I had Kubuntu before. Before installing Kubuntu from cdrom, I started in Live-Desktop and in Console-Box, I could do 'pppoeconf (similar to pppoe-setup). I'm honest, I'm not sure, pppoe-setup is part of downloaded SL with xfce, but I assume.

Don't forget, you'll need pppoe-Modem to connect.

Tell me about your success, pls.

Don't you have a friend, were you can get wireless access?
Then you can connect with him maybe and download pppoe package in Rigo or install (as root) with:
Code: Select all
equo install net-dialup/rp-pppoe-3.10-r1

The packages:

net-dialup/gnome-ppp-0.3.23-r1
net-dialup/ppp-2.4.5-r2
net-dialup/rp-pppoe-3.10-r1

are all on the SL Xfce LiveDVD, so I imagine you should be able to get ppp working with your installed OS.

Are you running the command as root user?

Code: Select all
$ su
Password: <-- Enter root user's password here, not your password.
# /usr/sbin/pppoe-setup
