How to locate file installation path [Solved]

Postby MelRay » Mon Nov 05, 2012 17:09

Ok I have tried the man files, equery, etc. I used equo to install linux-headers-3.1...I have been unable to find where it actually placed the files after using equo? Man I can't believe I can't find a post already addressing this issue...

Thanks,

MelRay

You can do it by running:
Code: Select all
equo query files <package>

For example:
Code: Select all
equo query files linux-headers

Or even using:
https://packages.sabayon.org
By clicking in content.

It is explained in equo --help or man equo.
Anyway, every include file should go into /usr/include.

That will only work for files or binaries that have the exact same name as the package, equo query files works directly at the package manager level, so it can detect every file that belong to a certain package.

Just a word ...
The command
Code: Select all
locate

is not yet installed by default (at least in SL X KDE).
You'll need to install the mlocate package (with Rigo or equo).
And then first step necessary, is to do an:
Code: Select all
updatedb

Then locate is working.
