My ATI only have effects (Kwin) when using Gallium-Mesa.

my new installation of Sabayon on a Phenon 8 cores with an ATI board, works with 3D effects only using Gallium-Mesa out of box default acceleration. I see that i not have an xorg.conf file. the parameters that works, good but only 59 FPS

Code: Select all
albfneto@fcfrp62 ~ $ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD CEDAR
    GL_NV_conditional_render, GL_AMD_conservative_depth,

Code: Select all
albfneto@fcfrp62 ~ $ eselect opengl list
Available OpenGL implementations:
  [1]   xorg-x11 *
  [2]   ati
  [3]   nvidia

when i try to install regular ATI drivers, and make xorg.conf, no more effects, much less good!

is this correct? is my installation correct?

are really ATI drivers problematic in this moment, in AMD machines? I see this kind of problem:

http://phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?60144-AMD-please-give-us-EGL-or-decent-direct-rendering

my kernel is 3.6, Sabayon 10.

What is your video card model? Is it a legacy AMD video card?
Right now Sabayon uses open source drivers out of the box, for AMD video cards.

i have an onboard video card, but seems switched off,
the monitor (somewhat old, LCD, Samsung, but without DVI, only VGA connector) is connected in the other board, in the PCI slot, seems to be an ATI 7450.
Strange behaviour, with the Gallium drivers, the video board is detected by the KDE Widget, hardware monitor, but not seen by the Hardinfo package.
the comp is of the University, it is not possible for me open it for check the hardware.

If the video card is recent, then it shouldn't be a legacy video card, thus you should be able to get it to work using the most recent ati-drivers package, my guess is that the radeon kernel module gets loaded, generating a conflict between it and fglrx.
I'd try to remove the xf86-video-ati package and reconfigure the system to use fglrx.

Basically you could try this procedure:
viewtopic.php?f=86&t=28275#p154472
starting from point 1 (skipping the legacy AMD driver installation part).
