Thanks for the interesting stuff. I did manage a download of Sabayon X, with gnome presumably. Installed
over ubuntu. Now I am lost, can't find a web browser, is there one there? I am using my windows computer now.

There should be a browser available in every "desktop oriented" edition of Sabayon, usually either chromium or midori is there.
If you can't find the one you want, you can install it using equo.

To check which browser (or browser related package) you have installed:
Code: Select all
equo query installed www-client

To install firefox:
(as root)
Code: Select all
equo update
equo install firefox --relaxed

I added --relaxed to avoid many updates being pulled in, you might want to remove it if you already upgraded your system.

Hello again; I can't find a terminal, in the list of installed software or any where, ctrl+alt+t doesn't
work. I cant see any tools to make any of the installed software run   .
I will be away from the computer now until this evening.
Thanks again for your help.

If you installed KDE 4 you have the option search in your start menu where you can typ the name of the program which you want to use ...

About Gnome, I do not remember very well as I only used gnome 3 very shortly but if you open the programs screen you have a similar field as far as I remember in which you can type the name of the program you want

Thank you for the reply. I actually tried typing in the name of various programs, it always said not found
even though I was typing it exactly as it was listed below the search option.
I don't know what gnome is supposed to look like or do as I 've never used it before.
Maybe I didn't get everything in the download

Regarding not finding the programs...
first as per the above example
Code: Select all
equo update

is necessary to populate the database before a query.
Or you could get back a not found ..
Don't you have RIGO package installer. Much easier for a New user.
Just like the command line though,,, Wait a few seconds for RIGO to Update the database before a search.
RIGO does an Update as it starts up.

For MATE
Right-click on the panel and choose "Add to Panel..."
Menu should be listed as a choice there.
