Tried several times to download the KDE version , no success, I may have to wait until I can get to a wired
network connection.

Woodsman, I really hope you get to get hold of the KDE version. It is really well done. I am an ubuntu refugee as well and was under the impression that ubuntu was the most polished and safest distro to use. I definitely changed my mind now ;)

You do not need a cd (+/- 750 mb), you need a dvd because of the download size (+/- 2500 mb)

With a bad connection you can try to download using torrent instead of the direct ISO files.

Really appreciate the replys, yeah I'm looking forward to KDE. I now have a DVD so I will go back to the library and
try again. I don't want to badmouth ubuntu as I am nowhere near being truly proficient on computers, It has made me appreciate windows though.

I am not familiar with torrent, how do I access it. :D

I just found out , I can buy Sabayon live install CD on ebay with my choice of DE for $4.99 + $1.99 shipping. If the
download doesn't work I may do that for the KDE version.

Do not know what the problem was with Ubuntu, I am running Sabayon + Kubuntu on my second pc and both are doing fine.
However Kubuntu is more buggy than Ubuntu, especially the package manager so I only run updates with terminal.

Concerning Sabayon, it is rolling distribution which means it is being updated/upgraded all the time (normally not necessary to re-install after a couple of months as for many other Linux distributions out there).
The version number (10 for the moment) is somewhat a kind of snapshot, which means that since it came out many updates have been done and once you have installed Sabayon you have many updates to install.

Or you can go for the daily build which is the most current Sabayon, it is in the same link as where you download normally but at the bottom of the list you have a folder with daily builds.

When running Windows, install uTorrent which is a small program with which you can download torrents.
You just go to the download list of Sabayon and select the nearest location to you, go to the ISO folder and select the file .torrent, normally after downloading this file once you click on it it will ask if you want to start the download with uTorrent, that's it

Thank you for the reply. I tried downloading the KDE version again, no luck so i will buy the install DVD on ebay.
I did down load the gnome version and have it on live CD, Can't get it installed to hard drive though without erasing
and reformatting what i have and I don't want to do that, it doesn't recognize my unallocated partitions, just see's it as free space,. When I try to install there it tells me not enough room on the disk. I actuality there is 280 gb of free space.
So I'm stumped either way it doesn't look like it's going to work, and the partition manager doesn't have the options
gparted does. It doesn't help that I have never had any experience at this either.

Regarding ubuntu, it never seemed to work as well after I did the updates, why, I dunno. Most of the forum members
are very helpful but some get downright nasty if you even suggest that ubuntu is less than perfect. That being said though,I would have given up long ago except for the help, encouragement and support of the ubuntu community as a whole. I read a quote by a member who said "I use linux because I like linux not because i hate windows" a
sentiment i totally share.
Since my only experience thus far with linux has been ubuntu, i have nothing to compare with, A big reason I want to try sabayon, i will have to wait for the install disk from ebay as the copy i burnt doesn't seem to have the option of a trial. Thank's again, the forum here is definitely a lot quieter than ubuntu, not a bad thing. :D

If you need gparted on the live medium just install it.
It will work provided that your computer has enough RAM, open a console and run:
(as root)
Code: Select all
equo update
equo install gparted

Then you can run gparted by running:
(as regular user)
Code: Select all
gksu gparted

I usually perform all the partitioning either using gparted or the GNOME disk utility/KDE partition manager and feed the installer with the partitions I created, by selecting manual disk partitioning, I don't like the installer partition manager very much.

@micia
I did another disk install of Sabayon today.
The install was Gnome 3 64 bit. I had mislabeled the DVD and thought I was installing Xfce4 (I really don't like Gnome3).
Anyway, Gparted was included on the iso DVD download.
Criticism accepted for Solutions that work. ;^)

KDE has its own partition-manager called ..."partitionmanager" and is included in Sabayon KDE

If you like Gparted simply install gparted ...

If it is already included then fine. :)
I got the idea that it wasn't installed from that message.
