Using both Audio output (Analog + HDMI) together

Postby dudumomo » Wed Oct 31, 2012 14:15

Dear all,

I've installed XBMC and would like to be able to use both Audio output from my Sabayon box.
HDMI (connected to the TV) and analog (With speakers) for a greater experience.

Any idea how to do that?

I guess I might need to modify the ALSA conf? Or can PulseAudio help?

Thank you !

What kind of graphics card do you have?

What do you currently have for audio output? I've done audio through HDMI on both ati proprietary and ati open source drivers. I would think getting the hdmi audio to work would be where to start if you don't have that going already.

Both are working separately. Now I want the system to use both output simultaneously.

Unfortunately, I'm really not sure how easily this can be done. A little google fu revealed nothing worthwhile. I don't have time to experiment with this on my own at the moment. :/

Run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol), click on the Configuration tab and you should see two Profiles, one for your analogue audio hardware and the other for your HDMI audio hardware. Try turning them both on.

Both seems activated into the configuration tab. But in Output, I can only choose 1 default...

Try launching PulseAudio Preferences, click on the 'Simultaneous Output' tab and tick 'Add virtual output device for simultaneous output on all local sound cards'. You might need to then launch PulseAudio Volume Control again and select some things there.
