NIS users cannot login via Console/GDM, but ssh works good!

NIS users cannot login via Console/GDM, but ssh works good!

I setup a Sabayon box and joined our NIS domain.
ypbind and rpcbind work good, and I could login via ssh remotely.
But I cannot login via tty console and gdm locally.
And, if I login via local user and su to nis user, it works too.

Checked the /etc/pam.d/{system-local-login,system-remote-login}, they are the same!

Why???

For example, I have one local users - userlocal, and one nis user - usernis.

1. From the console, both text tty and gdm, userlocal can login the box. But usernis cannot login. The message is "Authentication Failure". If I logged in with userlocal, and then "su usernis", it works. So the nis client should be ok.

2. From another linux bash shell, run "ssh usernis@ip_of_the_box" or "ssh userlocal@ip_of_the_box", both users could login.

Sounds to me like a GDM issue. I say this because the KDM that opensuse uses/used had a similar issue a while back and by your account logging in without it in the equation seems to work. You might try replacing GDM with another like lightdm and see if it helps. Also may want to check Gnome's forums and see if there is a NIS specific configuration for GDM.

Similar problems I found:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/553142

A google search for "gdm nis" made a lot of similar hits but most/all were old issues that are probably not relevant anymore.
