KMail .. KMail ... KMail [Solved]

Postby linuxfluesterer » Sat Oct 06, 2012 18:30

Hallo, as I said in another thread, I am trying to use KMail.
But it is so understandable to me, and it still seems to have problems (bugs?).
One question now is.. How can I delete 'Unknown Identitity' in KMail settings???
After deleting a lot of repeated lines with 'Unknown Identitity' and clicking ok when finished,
everything seems fine. When I start settings again, then there are more 'Unknown Identities' than before... Crazy.
And second question, when I want to import filter settings from thunderbird, I can open Thunderbird folder,
but there is no file to open, which contains the flter settings. I can never confirm to import a specific file containing the filter settings... I don't understand...
Btw, the Import Assistant doesn't work, not for complete email import nor for single steps...
It stops in half of work (import complete TB folders), or (e.g.) the imported settings or filters were NOT imported yet...

I'm using KDE 4.9.1 on SL X with 64 bit...

I was a KMail user for many years but Switced to TBird so that I could sync my PDA in 2008 which Kmail failed to do.
Anyway try the menu
Settings -> Configure KMail -> Identities

and if that fails go into the config

Code: Select all
~/.kde/share/config/emailidentities

Beyond that, I don't remember having to actually having to delete an Identity.
If I hit a stone wall with a configuration like your situation I would consider saving the Mail and Removing and ReInstalling KMail if you are unable to reach a solution.

Hallo sqlpython...
I did what you suggested (I did it before):
sqlpython wrote:Anyway try the menu
Settings -> Configure KMail -> Identities

This didn't lead to really deleting identities.
But
sqlpython wrote:and if that fails go into the config

CODE: ALLES AUSWÄHLEN
~/.kde/share/config/emailidentities

was a good tip, thank you. Here I deleted around 45 'Unknown idenities', no lie, and then saved the cleaned config file.
Now, I don't have any 'Unknown Identity' any more.

Another problem was, that I got the same email added in a local sub folder of my Mail-dir.
I found out, that is was due to the filter constellation, where I had to tick
'for one account only'. Anyway though I have a tick for 'local Mail dir',
I see a second mail dir (my real account from my provider).
And I'd appreciate much more to see that real account (myname@provider.com) in KMail
than to have a 'Local Mail dir'.
But because it's working now without a real problem, I stop use Thb and now KMail is part of my KDE life.
I will close this topic as 'Solved'.
If you have a hint, that I can get my real account in KMail rather than 'Local Mail dir', you could let me know, pls.

Sorry, I haven't used Kmail in years and don't remember everything.
I use Thunderbird since about 2008... I have become very tied to Google apps which Tbird works nicely with.....
Happy you have a solution.
