I can't change clocktime and timezone! [Solved]

Postby britz » Mon Oct 22, 2012 18:01

Hi everybody,
i'm not a newbie but this is the first time for me with Sabayon.
I found it GREAT!
Just a silly problem: clocktime is two hour forward real time of my country! Pheraps this because timezone in not correctly setted.
I've tried to modify themt using root privileges but when I esc from clock option panel the time remains the same!

HW clock time is correctly setted.

Anyone knows what should I do to well set clock time of my system?

For me, it would be great, you would let us know, witch gui you have.
In KDE, I know where you can check and set the time zone...
I assume, while installing Sabayon, you did not untickle Time Zone (UTC) and mark 'local'
Now (I assume), Sabayon takes your hardware clock as UTC time.
And now it adds 2 hours to UTC.
In a console window, you can type:
Code: Select all
cat /etc/conf.d/hwclock

I assume you should see a line with
Code: Select all
clock="utc"

To synchronize your hwclock with time zone in SLyou can enter the following in a root console:
Code: Select all
/sbin/hwclock --localtime

Maybe (not sure) you must reboot.

First follow, to the letter, the procedure given in SL Wiki article HOWTO: Clock, Time, UTC, Dual boot with Windows (irrespective of whether or not you dual boot), then set the time of the system clock from the command line using the Linux date command:

Code: Select all
$ su
Password:
# date MMDDhhmm
# exit
exit
$

From then on you will be OK.

If you then want to keep your system clock synchronised to a remote time server on the Internet, see the comments regarding NTP in the blog post Evaluating Sabayon Linux Xfce.

Thank you guys.
I use gnome3 version and I think it's a very strange thing setting hour using line command instead gnome panel...

Anyway Thank you for suggests. Using command line now the hour is correct.
