Make Amdcccle's twin monitor settings "stick"? [Solved]

Postby dizwell » Sat Oct 20, 2012 1:50

How do I make amdcccle's settings 'stick' between reboots? I can run it as root fine; I set it to 'Multi-display desktop with display(s) 2', and everything is fine. Reboot, however, and it comes back set to 'Cloned display from display(s) 2'.

I even did a line-by-line comparison of /etc/X11/xorg.conf before and after re-setting it to multi-display and couldn't see any difference. So whatever amdccle is setting, it's not doing it the way I expected it to!

Is there a way to preserve the settings across reboots, please?

I found a workaround for this shortly after posting. The trick is to run amdcccle as root and set up the multi-display as before. When it is correct, then click Activities->Applications->System Settings ->Displays. That should show you the twin-view setup you've already arrived at... so now (the important bit), you click Apply. That's the bit which seems to write to xorg.conf and thus make the twin-view setup "stick" across reboots.

Shorter version: use amdcccle to set up twin monitors; then use the Displays tool to accept the configuration.
