After fresh install, equo update fails. [Solved]

Postby osoloco » Thu Oct 18, 2012 21:07

I have done a fresh install first of Sabayon 9 KDE 64 and then CoreCDX KDE 64. In both cases when I try to run (as su) equo update (or equo update --force, for the matter), I get the following error (is in spanish but i think it is self explanatory):

# equo update

I have already done the following things:
- Reviewed http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... t_to_do.3F
- Checked that repositories.conf and entropy_sabayonlinux.org are fine.
- My Internet conection is working (i can browse and download with wget)
- Verified de MD5 sum of the iso is correct
- Burned the DVD/CD at low speeds.
- In that computer I have successfully installed PCLinuxOS, Mageia 2 and Mint 13, but I had in the past Sabayon 7 in another computer and I really like this distro and want to use it again. First I installed Sabayon 9, and thinking that could be a version problem I went for the daily Oct. 14 CoreCDX, but the problem keeps.

Any hint on what can be the problem?

By the way the computer is a 2.4 GHz Intel 64 proc, 4 GB Memory, Samsung 1TB 7200 HD, Intel MoBo.

Thanks in advance for any help.

In short, the error in english is that the repository was not found. But if I go via a browser to the repository URL I can see it. I even was able to manage to download from the browser the repository.

Yes I did equo update --force aswell, with no luck.

Yes, I did also the mirrorsort command. Someting strange was that only 3 mirrors had conection of about 65kbps, all the rest had 0.00.

What bandwidth is your Internet connection? 2 Mbps or higher?

I suggest you check your MTU -- see the blog post Why can’t I access a specific Web site?.

You could also try forcing TCP MTU probing, also discussed in the aforementioned post:

Code: Select all
echo 2 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_mtu_probing

or:

Code: Select all
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_mtu_probing

0 Do not perform PLPMTUD (Packetization Layer Path MTU Discovery)
1 Perform PLPMTUD only after detecting a ‘blackhole’.
2 Always perform PLPMTUD.

Which of the two different solutions I suggested solved the problem? Making sure your PC uses the correct MTU, or forcing PLPMTUD?
