A few weeks ago I tried a few distros on an old Dell laptop. Each time it was a dual boot install and I didn't have any problems installing any of them.
In the end I liked Sabayon 9 KDE the best and decided to install it on my desktop alongside Mint 11 Gnome2 32 bit. The plan was to use Sabayon as my main OS and keep Mint as a backup for the time being. The install failed repeatedly on my desktop PC.
After selecting the "Use Free Space" option the installer presented me with a GParted style map of my hard drive sdb. I select sdb5 which corresponds to 149460M of unallocated space. This area turns yellow with a red border which appears to indicate it has been selected.
When I click [Next] an error message comes up.
It says "An unhandled exception has occurred. This is most likely a bug. Please save a copy of the detailed exception and file a bug report.".
That's where the install stops.
Any ideas?

I have had same issues with Sabayon.
Try the torrent download, it is strange but often it worked for me instead of using http/ftp downloads.
If this fails, try the daily builds which contains latest software, you will find the folder at the bottom of the shown iso's of the Index.

After trying to install again off this same disk the installer would not even run.
I assume there was some sort of physical problem with disk. I've got a copy of the Sabayon 10 live DVD now.
New disk, new problem, new thread.
