Sometimes Sytem Slow To almost A Halt

Postby setanta » Fri Oct 12, 2012 13:08

Hi there, I installed Sabayon 10 KDE a few weeks ago and really like it, there have been a few issues but I have sorted them through except this on. From time to time the system slows down starts lagging and slows steadily to a snails pace. It looses all responsiveness so when I click on the menu it takes several seconds for it to load then scrolling through to the log out button takes several seconds. Once I log out and back in all is well and the desktop is as it should.

I cannot figure this out. My system is new 64bit 8GB Ram on a quad core, I dual boot with Windows and never a problem on Windows like this. Although I much prefer to use linux.

I can always log out and then log back in but when I am working it is a pain. Any suggestions would be helpul.

By the way I am sure I have installed the 64 bit version.

Many thanks

Which desktop environment do you use? Sometimes such lack of responsive indicates a bug. Also, boot sabayon and run the system monitor in a workspace. When your system slows down, check which process takes up too much memory or prcessing power. I suspect cron tabas such as backups or sth similar. Also, disable the keyring daemons, as they are near useless.
