Hi guys,

Did you encounter the problem that the timezone sticks to Europe/London?

How to fix this problem?

Follow the steps given in HOWTO: Clock, Time, UTC, Dual boot with Windows (which is applicable irrespective of whether or not you dual boot) and that should fix it.

I followed the instruction, however, it still won't change.

Now, I just changed the hardware clock by

sudo hwclock --set --utc --date "05 Oct 2012 10:56"
sudo hwclock -w

It seems show the time correctly, but the timezone still Europe/London, even after I have change the /etc/localtime and /etc/timezone. I am really confused which configuration file is taking control of my timezone?

btw, my network time also doesn't work. Does it have something to do with my problem?

Furthermore, who is the manufacturer of you machine, and what is the model? What Desktop Environment are you using, and is your SL installation upgraded to latest? How are you connecting your machine to your router: wired or wireless connection? And are you dual booting with Windows or with one or more other Linux distributions?

the manufacturer of my machine is Acer, modle Veriton M670G. I am using gnome 3. Latest installation of SL 10. Wired connection. I have windows and another linux installed, however, I have never login them yet.

You need to use the Code button so that your posts aren't the height of Republic Plaza. When you are posting, notice the button labelled Code above the box where you type? Click on that and you'll see that it inserts BBCode in the box. You put your pasted Terminal output between the two delimiters, and then, when you click on Submit, the post is formatted nicely and there are scroll bars so that readers don't have to move down, down, down the page and up, up, up the page to read the many lines of output you posted. I've fixed your two previous posts accordingly this time.

OK, now to your problem. There are a few ways of achieving the objective of displaying the local time on the DE's clock. It can be achieved with the BIOS clock containing either UTC or local time. As you also have Windows installed, let's go the SL Wiki way (local time). Change the file /etc/conf.d/hwclock to follow the SL Wiki article:

Then use the Linux date command to set your system time to your current local time (not UTC):

where MMDD is your current local date, and hhmm is your current local time (24-hour clock).

Then reboot a couple of times to check that the system time remains as the local time.

I suggest you try exactly what I've written in my post, without using any other commands, and let's see what happens. It's better to try it, rather than to speculate.
