Slight problem with Firefox

Postby peaveyman » Mon Sep 24, 2012 23:17

Most everything seems to work great on the fresh install but i do have a slight issue with firefox using a ton of memory. That isn't a problem because i have 8 gig. But the issue is that firefox becomes what i call laggy. Takes several seconds to switch tabs and causes xchat to do the same. Shut firefox down and the problem goes away.

Any ideas?

It's sort of impossible to tell from what you've given us. I'm not even sure where to tell you to start except the following:

1) Make sure you have the latest version of firefox. Every update seems to be addressing more and more memory problems.

2) Disable add-ons you use in firefox and see if the problem goes away. If it does, add them back gradually to figure out which addon is causing problems.

Peaveyman - how much is a ton of memory?

On my system with 3 tabs open Firefox is using 181k of memory + 44k shared memory.

I just managed to get 19 tabs open (now I think that is quite a lot!). My memory usage is now 427k + 24k shared, so yes your usage does sound high, although it probably also depends on what you have open in those tabs. I have no lag switching tabs. Did you try what Stupot suggested?

Not yet. I thought I had it pinpointed down to a flash ad that was running in one of the tabs. I blocked it and left FF open all night but this morning it was doing it again. I have switched to Opera for the time being until I get this sorted.
