Update and Upgraded to sabayon X , where is 3.5.4 kernel?

Postby v3ss0n » Wed Sep 19, 2012 16:28

Hello Sabayon,

I upgraded to Sabayon X via weekly repo because i am excited on BFQ kernel, i do IO heavy operations all the time.
But when i do equo search sys-kernel , i do not see any kernel that have 3.5.4 version Where are they? How can i get them?

kernel upgrades have to be done explicitly, for dependency reasons.

However, there is a tool to make the process as painless as possible:

That's because this is the latest kernel Sabayon has: http://packages.sabayon.org/show/linux- ... 5,standard

3.5-r7

To the best of my knowledge, Sabayon doesn't slot 3.5.x, it only stores one 3.x kernel and increments the revision any time a new 3.x kernel is released.

So, 3.5-r7 is what you want.

Correct. We also have our own kernel repositories at git.sabayon.org

Thanks for your confirmation Lxnay.

Now i have a new problem. After updated to 3.5-r7 , all compositing / animations on KWin (Woobly Window , Fade , Minimize animations) Become so slow . FPS Dropped to 3-5 FPS , system CPU jump up to 99%.

I am running on powerful gaming laptop. Never happened that since Sabayon version 6.

My specs are Core i7 Sandy Bridge , nvidia GT550 M (2 GB VGA Ram) 8 GB DDR RAM , 7200 RPM 1TB HDD.

When i switch back to kernel 3.1.0 (my previous kernel) all is fine, 60 FPS on woobly window and any compositing actions.

What happened? any kernel config to help this?

Check if you are still using proper video drivers.

I switched off Nvidia and using Intel so only intel drivers are loaded , they are not kernel modules.
I have tested thoroughly , 3.5 vs 3.1 , only 3.5 have that problem.

that latest intel driver on your repository . So it seems its the bug that comes from Kernel 3.5 .
