Unable to boot Sabayon 10 on new hardware

Postby z80man » Wed Sep 19, 2012 11:04

When I try to boot the DVD, the first screen is displayed. (Select LIVE, Install.... etc). No matter which choice I make, the DVD access light gives a few flashes and everything stops with a blank screen.
My DVD works fine on older hardware, and also works in VirtualBox so no probs with the image.
My PC is new, so maybe it doesn't like my hardware.
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
cpu - Core-i5 3470
mem - 4gb
video - ATI HD6570 card
Are there any boot time keys I can press for any messages etc as there would be no place for log files etc....
Thanks

Boot the LiveDVD and, when the menu appears, press F5 and enter the following parameter at the end of the kernel boot line:

Code: Select all
xdriver=ati

Try that and see if it gets you further.

Thanks for response, but when I press F5 a window pops up giving 5 choices, and I can't "break out" to enter your suggestion. There seems to be no way to add extra boot options manually.

I have also tried Sabayon 9 with exactly the same results, except 9 boot screen gives another option - "debug" mode.
I tried this and after getting a command line prompt, entered "exit" and Sabayon 9 proceeded to load and run.
Only minor problem was the display was slightly smaller than the monitor. When I have seen this with other distros it is usually because the scan rate was not 60Hz but something else like 65 or 70Hz. Can't find any way to set this either.

Looks like Sabayon is to tough for me......

The Esc key normally does it.
