How to play DVDs

Postby vinoman » Sun Sep 16, 2012 1:15

I've installed sabayon 10 xfce 64bit

What files are needed to play DVDs in VLC or other media players?

I've installed libdvdread, but it still won't play yet. What else is needed?

Doesn't the VLC install include libdvdcss?

It always has whenever I have installed VLC in other distros.

(I'm not sure about what Sabayon does these days as I'm I'm currently looking into coming back to Sabayon, partially inspired by the desire to escape from systemd.)

I don't understand ...

Did you setup dvd-device in preferences ?

maybe the problem is this.

libdvdcss is installed by default.

I installed vlc on my first sabayon installation in over 5 years & it did not include libdvdcss?

I haven't investigated why, though I did install it straight afterwards anyway. Whether it is that way in this distro due to U.S. corporate politics, or what, I have no idea? Some other distros (Ubuntu comes to mind) don't (or at least didn't) include vlc for that political/legal reason.
