How to make KDE look like KDE on Sabayon Distro

Postby scatman75 » Fri Sep 14, 2012 17:23

Long time lurker and now needing help.

I am very frustrated right now. I just want my kde desktop to look like the one on the current Daily image. I have been running live distro updates for months, and I noticed my desktop was all wrong.

I tried to restore the /etc/skel files, and that just messed up everything. Fonts all wrong and all my widgets in my tool bar are left justifiying, and I am getting very frustrated...

Thank anyone for their time.

Well the differences are somewhat subtle.. Different, harder to read fonts in Terminal, I can't find the theme that "looks" like the dark grey theme on the bottom of the task panel.

I guess what I am mainly asking is is there an easy way to make KDE themes the exact same as the themes on the Daily ISO. something like copying the skeleton files over, because doing that actually made things worse. Luckily I had backed up my .kde directory.

It seems as I have done multiple rolling distro upgrades to KDE, and I haven't kept up with changes you guys have done to improve font readability as well as overall theming changes.

I just want to get the look of the current sabayon 10 distro. Is there a set of files to copy over? and could I keep my startup settings (favorites, desktop icons) intact?

I just fixed my gtk apps by equo instailling the oxygen-gtk themes:

sudo equo install oxygen-gtk
sudo equo install oxygen-gtk-1.0.3

One last thing I think... The theme appears to be Air on the install DVD, but the background is grey, whereas the air theme on my box has a clearish background.

As requested earlier, here is a screen shot of my desktop as well as a virtual machine running the Daily Sabayon 10 iso.

I TOOK SOME SCREENSHOTS, BUT THE BOARD SAYS ITS OVER QUOTA? When can I post images again or should I ask my question in another forum?

Just host the images somewhere else and post the links here.

if you don't know of any, does the job great.

Thanks for the suggestion on using imgur.com Stupot!

As requested here are the images.

Not that these images are captured using the original boot iso running inside of virtualbox.

First image, overall Grey (non transparent) Air Theme used on the panel background.

The 2nd image, has a direct comparison with the Air them from the Distro CD vs, the Air theme I currently have installed.

My Air theme is transparent, I acutually like the darker grey background of the install disk.

Is there a different Air theme on the Sabayon Daily ISO?

When you open up the menu on your installed version, is there some transparency or is it all grey?

It looks to me like your compositing or perhaps just some visual effects are disabled.

When you click on the top of a window and move it, does it "wobble"?

Does pressing Alt+Shift+F12 have any noticeable change?

If you don't want the transparency, all you need to do is disable compositing. Go to System Settings --> Desktop Effects --> General and then untick the 'Enable desktop effects at startup', or, if you want some effects, go to the 'All Effects' tab and just disable 'Translucency'.
