Microphone problem

Hello, I'm trying to use my microphone but it doesn't work. I've found this link https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?titl ... ound_Cards but my sound card is reported as

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

which is not in the list. Is that help page still relevant? If so, which model name should I pick?
I have already trying to fix the volumes in kmix, alsamix, pavucontrol but I still don't get anything. I'm using the bar in system settings -> multimedia and pidgin as a visual feedback. I'm running Sabayon and KDE 4.9. The microphone is an external headset; I've tested it on an ubuntu machine and it works fine. Any help please?

If it's in an external headset, is it a USB headset? Do you have any error messages in /var/log/messages and the output of dmesg?

It's a headset with the usual two jacks (green and pink). I can hear sound from it but microphone is completely muted.

Mostly, it seems to be opera plugin wrapper (aka flash). One strange message I get is whenever I open System settings -> Multimedia, saying more or less that "one or more internal devices have been removed, do you want kde to permanently ignore those devices". Since I'm on a laptop, I'm positive I didn't remove any internal device.

Well, the lsmod output looks OK as far as I can tell.

Have you install PulseAudio Volume Control and made sure the PulseAudio channels are correctly configured and not muted?:

then reboot, open a Konsole/Terminal window and run ALSAMixer:

Press the Tab key to page through all the input and output channels. Make sure none are muted (pressing the 'M' key toggles muting) and the channels are turned up to reasonable levels.

If the above-mentioned edit to /etc/modprobe.d/alsasound does not do it, then try instead the fix given in Gentoo Wiki - Dell Latitude E6x00, i.e. change the line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsasound to be:

and, if that also does not work, try:

and if that does not work, try the fix in that Gentoo Wiki article for kernel 2.6.31-gentoo-r6:

For Version 2.6.31-gentoo-r6, you do not need to set any module options ("model=xxx"), but be sure to set in the alsamixer (kde mixer) the following to get a working mic: Digital Input Source = Digital Mic 1, Input Source1 = Front Mic, Input Source2 = Front Mic.

I'm not sure how exactly but at a certain moment the mic started to work. However, I can hear my voice over the speakers, but programs don't seem to receive any sound. It's as if the line in was directly connected to the line out.

My alsasound file now looks like this:

Apparently other people on the internet reported the same issue but I can't find the Capture option they speak about (as in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=111133).

In case it means anything, here's my output for amixer:

Seems to me that the mapping of ALSA channels is wrong, then. This happens in ALSA with some hardware, and, if one knows how, the mapping can be changed. For example, there is a position_fix= option for the snd_hda_intel module. You could try position_fix=1, for example. Google "options snd-hda-intel position_fix" for examples.

Have you therefore looked in the Debian file that corresponds to /etc/modprobe.d/alsasound in Gentoo/SL? The Debian file may or may not have the same name (in Ubuntu it's called /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf or something like that). Look for a line or lines that contain options snd-hda-intel and see what parameters they contain.
