I then rebooted after the upgrades installed, and got several "clock skew detected" messages in the startup sequence. It also appears to hang a bit in a couple of spots (I have not yet determined where).
Shutdown is now giving two errors as well (this is paraphrased):
- Code: Select all
Shutting down LVs & VGs
Logical Volume vg_zenboy contains a filesystem still in use
and
udev failed to stop normally - start-stop-daemon - 2 processes failed to stop
It does force past these !!errors and will finally shut down, although it did not on the first reboot after the upgrades - I had to kill it.
All the entropy/equo and update packages were up to date before any of these upgrades, by the way.
Moving on, I then installed the 3.5.0-r3 kernel and sources via kernel-switcher and got another error. (The output here is from a reinstall of the kernel after reinstalling the zfs-userpace, which is why it says 3.5.0 is already installed):

As I mentioned, this is actually the output from the reinstall of the kernel. After the first install of 3.5 I reinstalled the zfs-userpace but got no errors like I did the first time, so I then reinstalled the kernel to see if I got the same output, which I did.
Any ideas as to what has happened here - I don't use zfs; does it even matter?
As for grub, although a grub 2.00 package came through in the upgrade set, it shows that I still have grub 1.99 running, but the interface looks rather different now, as do the options. On inital boot, I get a very brief flicker on screen of "error:file not found" before the first new-looking screen (options are Sabayon GNU/LINUX and Advanced Options for Sabayon Gnu/Linux). When I select the second choice "Advanced options for Sabayon-linux" I get:
- Code: Select all
error: file not found (this line is repeated several times)
Loading Linux x_86 3.5.0-sabayon
Loading initial ramdisk
Press any key to continue
If I press a key, I get the old familiar choice of kernels list - If I do nothing and don't press a key, it will still boot into 3.5.0 after a delay, but this is a bit confusing at the moment, not sure if it's correct (and the two separate displays of the "file not found" notices in grub definitely don't look right to me).
****************************************************
This is a mishmash of stuff, I know, but as it all came up in the same upgrade and kernel-switch, I am trying to figure how/if they are all related...
The system does boot (though slower) and it does shut down (also slower). I'm in 3.5.0 and have removed all the 3.4.0 stuff, and it appears to be running normally once it boots up, but I wonder what did not get installed just right.
BTW, the clock skew notifications (there were several in the first reboot after the inital upgrade set) seem to have gone away after a few of these reboots, but could that have corrupted some things in the big upgrade if it was going on then? How can I fix or even detect if that in fact happened?
Any ideas as to what all this is? - and is this (2 sequential screens) the correct new sequence &/or look for grub 1.99?
I really had no good idea for a subject line or forum category for all this, so it wound up here - feel free to move it if it belongs somewhere else...
Thank you all.
