Weird HP Driver Problem [Solved]

Postby Ponder » Sun Sep 02, 2012 21:20

I recently purchased an HP Officejet 4500 all-in-one printer and set about installing it over the network (wireless) connection.

I have it working great under CUPS and also have the scanner working but for some reason, the hpijs driver doesn't work.

All logs and checks show it's all up and running perfectly, print jobs being successfully completed, etc. except the printer doesn't seem to know this.

One thing I have noticed is it's reporting polkit as incompatible, but this is an optional component (and the reason I've waited is because I wanted this fully up to date before reporting, which happened today.

These are the relevant hp-check warnings:

Code: Select all
error: policykit     Admin-Policy-framework    OPTIONAL        -               0.107           MISSING    'policykit needs to be installed'
.
.
Missing Optional Dependencies
-----------------------------
error: 'policykit' package is missing/incompatible

And this is the device info:

Code: Select all
Officejet_4500_G510n-z
----------------------
Type: Printer
Device URI: hp:/net/Officejet_4500_G510n-z?zc=HPE495EE
PPD: /etc/cups/ppd/Officejet_4500_G510n-z.ppd
PPD Description: HP Officejet 4500 g510n-z hpijs, 3.12.6
Printer status: printer Officejet_4500_G510n-z is idle.  enabled since Tue 28 Aug 2012 15:16:44 BST
Communication status: Good

I can still use the printer via CUPS, so it's not a big deal, but I'm a fussy bugger and would like it running via the hp driver if at all possible. Does anyone have any clues that can lead me in the right direction?

I was using the default that hp-setup chose, which was the hpijs driver, which was depreciated, as I was kindly told. I reinstalled the printer and chose the other available driver, which works a treat! :)
