Do I need to uninstall HAL? [Solved]

Postby adsicks » Sat Sep 01, 2012 21:35

I have a setup that has been upgraded and hopped from Sabayon 5...Do I still need HAL? I did an rc-update -s and noticed hald is started at boot.

HAL is obsolete, and you can get rid of it. You can uninstall it (if you're upgraded to current then the package should not even exist anymore) and also remove its initscript from the boot runlevel:

Code: Select all
# rc-update del hald boot
# rm /etc/init.d/hald

Thanks. I did that and am about to reboot. I think right after it was obsolete, I did a equo remove hal --pretend and there were still many packages that were dependent. Must have jumped the gun. But, even if the files are there, that will disable it for sure...I'll mark as Solved when I come back up...
