Grub failure after update!

I was happy with my Sabayon 9 in my laptop, until yesterday. After the removing of some packages by Sulfur, I rebooted this morning and I saw "grub" and the cursor! How can I repair this and be happy again?

You'll need to boot the LiveDVD and chroot into your installation to fix it. Once you have chrooted into the installation, you should reinstall GRUB 2. See the SL Wiki article HOWTO: Restore Grub2.

Simply start the installer from the LiveDVD and do a boot repair with that.

No luck! I tried with the Sabayon E17 live CD, chose to create a new bootloader -as it doesn't find any- the result was "successful" and when I rebooted, I saw the dynamic-duo "grub-cursor" on a different background!
What's happening?

rpil - you could try supergrub. You can find it at http://www.supergrubdisk.org/

It's helped me a few times.

No, my friend, I will not... After 5 years with Sabayon, I erased the installation.
With a live CD of Rescatux, I transferred my files with a stick and I will try something different.
It is very sad for me, but I think it is inadmissible, for a user to see all this time his system "alive and kicking" and suddenly, a day, totally destroyed (and not by his mistake)...

rpil - Sorry to hear it did not work out for you. Of course any distro/operating system can "break". I have never had it happen with Sabayon, but I have with other Linux distro's and most recently with Vista whan Windows update suddenly went haywire.

There is a tool called FSarchiver - you can use it to image your boot partition (or any other partition) and then restore from it if things go wrong. I use it once a month or before a particularly large update or upgrade.
