Boot error message [Solved]

Postby cl00t » Sun Aug 26, 2012 10:42

Hello, just noticed this error when starting up now, I didn't notice it before doing todays updates but cannot say for sure it was not there:

Any clues please?
Otherwise, it starts fine & everything seems ok.

If you have not tried to change the frame buffer console decoration theme or edit the file /etc/conf.d/fbcondecor or rebuild the kernel using genkernel or edit the splash theme's .cfg file in /etc/splash/sabayon/, i.e. if you are running a SL installation only upgraded using the standard Entropy tools, I suggest you file a bug report (make sure you mention your screen resolution).

Thanks for the reply, no I had not made any of those changes.
I was running sys-kernel/linux-sabayon-3.5-r3 which was producing this error on start, so I reinstalled sys-kernel/linux-sabayon-3.4-r6 & rebooted.
Selecting 3.4, I didn't get the error.
Uninstalled 3.5, rebooted.
Started 3.4, didn't get the error.
Reinstalled 3.5 & rebooted.
Started 3.5, got the error.
Started 3.4, didn't get the error.
Uninstalled 3.5.
All the above using kernel-switcher. 3.4 is running fine still.

I used tio have that problem too. I upgraded my kernel using genkernel, and built a bootable kernel 3.5. After that, I opened it again to slim it down, but it became unbootable. I then reinstalled the both genkernel programme and sabayon-sources but I got an error message whenever I tried to run
Code: Select all
su
genkernel --no-install --no-clean --no-mrproper all

Why did that happen?

^It happened because you didn't use the procedure and genkernel command exactly as given in the SL Wiki article HOWTO: Upgrade kernel using genkernel.
