Firefox 14.0.1 killing my machine [Solved]

Postby lourens » Wed Aug 15, 2012 14:56

Hi,

While browsing, my machine "locks up", the cursor become inactive for a couple of minutes, when it returns I am not able to do anything. Amorok starts jumping.
A Ctrl-Alt-F2, it takes around 3 minutes before I'm able to log in.
htop reports my 4 Cores running at 100%, Firefox is using around 84% of MEM% and between 40% and 70% of CPU%.
killall firefox does the job of returning my machine to a usefull state.

All updates have been applied and I am puzzled by this new development?

Any pointers will be welcome, I have a dislike for using Chromium !

Thanks a mill.

Have you tried disabling the Firefox Add-ons one-by-one to see if one of them is causing the problem?

Hi,

I do have some troubles with FF since a few months.
FF is going to 100% CPU but I am still able to use my desktop.
I suspect some plugins and especially flash player.
Try to check out your plugins and disable unused one to see if you still have the pb.

Hi Guys,

I'm testing Firefox now, in Safe Mode with all Addons disabled - I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi,

I have disabled all but the following Add-ons and the machine is behaving - I'll test the disabled ones when I need to again use them.
Enabled : DownloadHelper, Secure Sanitizer, PDF Download, Default Full Zoom Level.
Disabled : BetterPrivacy, FlashGot, EpubReader, Flash Video Downloader, Web Search Pro, music_detector.

Thanks for the help.

Let us know if you manage to identify the specific Add-on that caused the problem.

Also, kindly note the first link in my signature. I'll do it for you this time. Thanks.
