Been using Sabayon for about 5 years now. Have used the forums and the Wiki to answer most questions or problems encountered. However, if I was brand new to Sabayon, there is a learning curve, granted, but there should could be better directions.
For example, on any distro I test, one of the first things I do is install the video drivers and then see if Youtube will work. Now lets break this down. The video drivers (for me is Nvidia) used to have this huge xorg.conf now it only has
Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
VideoRam 1048576
BoardName "GeForce GTX 460"
Option "NoLogo" "true"
(only half of the 1gb memory is identified, that's just the way it's has always been this way, the "VideoRam" was an attempt to get it to identify all of it, don't think that worked either)
Back to the xorg.conf, there is nothing in Wiki about what was (which was a lot especially for dual monitors) or about what is needed now (which is next to nothing) for xorg.conf.
As for Youtube, which a flash player is needed, there is nothing in Wiki about how to get flash working. Now that Adobe is not going to be much help in the future with this announcement:
"NOTE: Adobe Flash Player 11.2 will be the last version to target Linux as a supported platform. Adobe will continue to provide security backports to Flash Player 11.2 for Linux."
Or we can just suck it up and wait for HTML5.
Regardless, 64bit Firefox and Flash almost always have problems. Works, doesn't work, stutters in play, crashes with 720p or 1080p in fullscreen. you know, the ususal. Are there things that can be done? Yes, are they in Sabayon's Wiki? No
Is there in Sabayon Wiki, how to force a Shutdown and force it to FSCK on reboot? No.
Is there in Sabayon Wiki, how to turn on or off the KDE special effects with a keyboard command? No
Is there in Sabayon Wiki, how to remove old Kernerls after installing the newest kernel? No
Is there more examples that could be made? Yes
I have found the answers to most of these through looking at Gentoo forums or wiki, and Sabayon's Forums, but not in Sabayon's Wiki.
This may not be the most graceful way of saying this, and I apologize.
It is just that if use "Widget A" and if I have problems with "Widget A" and would rather not spend hours of research in the forums and ask for help, only to be told, "you could have looked it up" which soooo helpful by the way, or told "you lie it didnt' happen" which I have seen happen, classic. What should be happening is that you look at the "Widget A" Wiki to find answers and that would be better than looking at "Widget B,C,D" for answers.
So for everyone whom may have forgotten, you were all a newb at one time. Pass on the knowledge.
