How to install Epson nx130 Printer in Sabayon 9 G 64Bit?

Postby eor2004 » Mon Aug 13, 2012 18:16

Hi friends, Sometime ago I was using sabayon 9 Gnome 32-Bit version and my printer an Epson NX130 was recognized and installed without too much effort going to "System Settings/Printers" and clicking the add printer button. Now I'm using Sabayon 9 Gnome 64-Bit version and my printer is Not recognized and I can't install it no matter what I do, so I was asking if someone could tell me why is this happening, right now I'm more interested in knowing why it can install in the 32bit version but not in the 64bit version :? . I think it will be better to get me an HP printer because it does have linux native driver support and will not have these problems with an HP printer, does anyone had trouble getting an HP printer to work with sabayon 64_Bit? Your answers will be of great help, thank you beforehand! :)

My suggestions are:
  1. Check with lsusb if the printer is recognized
  2. Try to install the printer through CUPS: open a browser and navigate to http://localhost:631/
  3. If it still doesn't work, install additional printer drivers and try again: net-print/gutenprint

One should always check beforehand, if a device will work with Linux and all features are supported. It applies to HP products too. This way you can skip a lot of headaches and wasted time.

This is the message I get everytime I try to install the printer, do you know what it means?

"FirewallD is not running. Network printer detection needs services mdns, ipp, ipp-client and samba-client enabled on firewall."

and yes, using "lsusb" the printer is listed as you can see below:
