Keeping Sabayon, but getting rid of Windows 7 [Solved]

Postby morcar » Thu Aug 09, 2012 14:14

I have to admit I am a big fan of Sabayon for about 3 days now and I have not looked at my Windows 7 at all. Even though I game a lot Windows its dead in my eyes.

So I wanted to know is how can i get rid of Windows 7 and keep my Sabayon 9.

I have Windows 7 on my Sata2 hard drive and on my IDE drive I have Sabayon 9. The GRUB is with Sabayon 9.

Is it a case of formatting the Windows drive and then trying to update the GRUB ?

If so how do you update the GRUB ?

I hope someone can understand this lmao

Yes, since your booting is already controlled by Sabayon, that should do it. Instead of reformatting the Windows drive, you could just repartition it. If the Windows drive is mounted by Sabayon, umount it, first.

After repartitioning, run
Code: Select all
grub2-install /dev/sdX
, where sdX is the drive Sabayon is on. Note that you should use the device id of the drive, not the partition. Next run
Code: Select all
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
. If all goes well, you are ready to reboot.

I would have a LiveCD handy, just in case something goes wrong. Something like Parted Magic.

Good luck,
Tim
