Recommended radeon open source driver not available

Postby jcoles » Sun Aug 05, 2012 12:11

re: notice "Upcoming important updates for ATI/AMD GPU owners"

The recommended open source driver package xf86-video-radeon is not in the repositories!
# equo install xf86-video-radeon
>> !!! No match for xf86-video-radeon in repositories.

Perhaps the author meant "xf86-video-ati"?

Apologies if this is already covered somewhere else. The forum search function WON'T ALLOW a search for "xf86-video-radeon". Why exclude terms that are EXACTLY what a user might want to search? Makes no sense!

>>      Content: Hi guys, the next week we're going to roll out an
important X.Org Server update. We are updating this
vital component of the distro to version 1.12.2.
In order to do so, we are now forced to upgrade
the AMD Catalyst Drivers to version 12.6. This version
also discontinues the support for Radeon HD 2000/3000/4000.
If you own one of these cards, you better switch to the
OpenSource drivers NOW. It is really easy actually:
make sure to have the xf86-video-ati package installed,
remove "ati-drivers" from your system, remove the following
file /etc/gpu-detector.conf and reboot.

According searching the forums: it's more efficient to use a real search engine like google or duckduckgo with the site operator: xf86-video-ati site:forum.sabayon.org
