BTW that's also false.

Code: Select all
equo query orphans

Will show you files that do not belong to any package currently installed. Removing those may be indeed dangerous because sometimes configuration files are created on first run and not during installation. Those files created after installation would appear orphaned though they are not.

Code: Select all
equo unusedpackages --sortbysize

Be careful with this though.

Thanks for the reply. I already tried this. It lists essential packages like logrotate, sudo, sabayon-skel,... It also lists packages I installed myself e.g. thunderbird but it seems not to list all the dependencies pulled in by installing thunar. For me this list seems random.

The purpose of a package manager is to keep track of dependencies. If it is not able to do this, it is broken. My Gentoo system runs since 2008 without re-installation. If portage was broken like Entropy my system would be bloated.

I thought Sabayon would be the perfect distribution for my partner's laptop (which I have to setup and maintain): based on Gentoo (the Distribution I use), rolling releases, binary packages (which makes it easier for non-technical user to install SW) and user-friendly for non-technical users. But with this broken package management it is not maintainable.

I will give Arch Linux a try.
