guest account after upgrade

Postby mohan43u » Tue Jul 24, 2012 10:22

Hi,

I see a new account 'guest' appearing in my gdm but I didn't create it. something happened to my passwd,

Code: Select all
guest:x:405:100:guest:/dev/null:/dev/null
vboxguest:x:114:994:added by portage for virtualbox-guest-additions:/var/run/vboxguest:/bin/sh

and my shadow file shows this,

Code: Select all
guest:*:12681:0:99999:7:::
vboxguest:!:15382::::::

syslog shows polkitd was added during upgrade, but no information about 'guest' account, anyone have this issue?

Code: Select all
Jul 24 13:33:34 mohanlaptop useradd[31894]: new user: name=polkitd, UID=119, GID=990, home=/var/lib/polkit-1, shell=/sbin/nologin

Should I remove that user? or some package depend on this account? not sure what to do, I need some help.

Super idea, the new account.
The same happened to me, and Im not able to login. Neither with password "Guest" or "sabayon". A Guest account which saves no data is usefull for me and my "guests" "family" whatsoever passes by :) and login should be nothing. Just klick on guest and within "Enter" and no password. Thats my preference for "guests". Afterwards everything is deleted, nothing stored and all installed programms could be used. Thats my thinking about a "Guest Account" Is there a way to fill the new "guest account" with live???

thks for your ideas

Mate, I'm seeking information about the newly created 'guest' account which shows-up in my gdm. Yeah, Its a good idea to have a 'guest' account, but Its not properly created, There is no password, not able to login. I'm trying to find which package created this account.

If this account is not created by a package, then something must be wrong in my system.
