Yes, @svantoviit, I searched for ati-drivers and got the same results you did. It finds version 12.4. My question concerns finding version 12.6, which is what the top poster says he installed using Rigo.

Tim, just read the output I posted again ;)
What it tells: "You have 12.4 installed, but there is an update to 12.6 available in sabayon-distro overlay "
12.6 are available in sabayon-distro overlay or in the main (sabayon.org) repository: Sabayon Entropy Store

Sabayon-Weekly repos. has 12.4 yet

Sabayonlinux.org has upgraded to 12.6

Maybe you're using sabayon-weekly repos.

Ok, thank you, that explains it. I am still a newbie and I thought sabayon-weekly was the repos I am supposed to use. I will have to research some more to figure out how my repos should be configured.

When kdm startup fails.

Also try to add the radeon module to the modules loaded by /etc/init.d/modules.
To do this, open as root, with your favourite text editor, the /etc/conf.d/modules file, then add at the end of the file:
Code: Select all
modules="radeon"

and reboot.
If you already had some modules there, just add radeon to them.

I added module. We made one step forward:-).Now after start i see black screen with cursor. I can move with this cursor. But screen for login dont start:-(

One interesting new. If i started system in recovery mode. After system started,I logged root, then i used used init 5. After that kdm works ok, but by normal start problem remains.

Hello all

I have a ati card and I face exactly the same problem as Martyss.
When I boot, I get the black sreen with the white mousse after load radeon modules, and I follow instructions of Joss, without success. The solution of Martyss (recovery and init 5) works also for me.
Nevertheless, the tradtionnal way to log in is not functionnal. Martyss did you finally fix it ? How can I do ?

Thank's a lot
Memach

Edit : Mea culpa, I had not applied modifications of sabayon-grub (removing splash, and so), and finally it works. Great job Joss !

Memnach,
Code: Select all
equo install x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati
equo remove --ask ati-drivers ati-userspace
mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
reboot
and you should be fine.

But without any logs it's impossible to say, what your problem is.
Luckily Sabayon provides tools to gather log files easily: sabayonlive-tools and cookbug
Code: Select all
sabutil menu
cookbug
Just pick what suits better.
