Gnome-Shell replaced?

Postby Kcilorak » Tue Jul 17, 2012 21:18

Hi all! Sabayon has quickly become one of my favorite distros and I am really loving all of the speed and stability.

However, as of yesterday (July 16, 2012) it seems the stock Gnome-Shell window manager has been replace with a more "classic" gnome interface. I was, needless to say, very surprised when I rebooted and my WM was gone. I re-installed with equo but it didn't show up in my WM list so... I'm kinda confused.

is this a steering decision by the higher ups? if so that isn't the end of the world and I'll just go rebuild it from source, but not everyone knows how to do that.

Thanks for the help!

I don't think so. 3D gnome-shell is working fine for me, right now.

Hi Kcilorak, welcome to the Sabayon forums,
are you sure your video drivers setup is alright? GNOME will go in fallback mode if your card isn't capable of handling GNOME Shell effects, usually this happens if there is some misconfiguration.
Which is the output of:
(as root)
Code: Select all
glxinfo | grep render
eselect opengl list
lspci | grep VGA
