Sabayon 9 - Problem ejecting discs

Postby dogbert0360 » Mon Jul 16, 2012 21:00

Great distro but I'm experiencing problems ejecting my dvd's. I'll pop in a dvd and when I try to eject them either using file manager or pressing the button on my system, the disc tray won't budge. So then I have to reboot so that I can get my disc back.

What could be causing this problem and how can this be fixed.

Will give it a try....

(Later that day...)

Popped in a dvd into the drive and then brought up a terminal and typed "eject". This worked but why do I get the problem when I do it manually?

What I'm asking is, why does it happen if I try to either press the eject button on my optical drive or use the button on the file manager or system task bar. This shouldn't be a problem if the optical drives are functioning the way they should.

I have an Lite_On dvd burner and no matter what linux I try, this always happens so is not an issue with sabayon is an issue with linux in general! :?

Same problem here.

francesco@dad-sabayon ~/Documents $ eject
eject: tried to use `/mnt/cdrom' as device name but it is no block device
eject: unable to find or open device for: `cdrom'

Same message as root.

LG DVD and LG Blu Ray. None of them opens

Are you all using GNOME, by any chance?

frapelli, I have a feeling your problem may be different to the problem that dogbert0360 and eor2004 have, given that a) the eject command did not work in your case; b) you reported error messages that the other two did not; c) you indicated that you have two (and different) optical drives. Have a look in the /dev/, /media/ and /mnt/ directories and tell us what optical drives are listed in there:

Code: Select all
$ su
Password:
# ls -la /dev/sr*
# ls -la /dev/cd*
# ls -la /dev/dvd*
# ls -la /media/
# ls -la /mnt/
