Hi everyone!

After a fresh install of Sabayon 9, my laptop Dell XPS15 started to suffer from some problems regarding audio and video.

- I will just briefly discuss the video issue here (even if I think I solved it): I had a problem with my integrated webcam, causing my system to freeze completely (with every kernel from 3.2 to 3.4) and apparently I solved it using the solution in this post: http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=27443 (basicly I just had to add "options uvcvideo nodrop=1" to the file "/etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf"): anyway it would be nice to know why my webcam hasn't ever had any issue since sabayon 5, until the fresh install !

- Now to the real issue, audio!
I have an Intel HDA ACL665 soundboard. there are two problems:
1) I hear a continuous and annoying noise from the speakers, I can only stop it muting them...

2) I hear no audio from Youtube or other Flash videos (read further...)

This is what I already tried: re-run alsaconfig (nothing done), re-check settings on Kmix and pavucontrol (nothing done), re-checking alsamixer (nothing)
PS: by the way, since I have another soundboard, an hdmi nvidia output, I decided to mute it with pacucontrol
PS2: it seems strange to me but I don't know if it's actually normal: running alsamixer, I can see two 'Headphone' column settings (the second and the third from left); probably I'm misremembering, but I'm sure there was only one previously; moreover, if I mute the first one (the second from left) the sound actually mutes, but if I act on the second (the third from left) nothing happens...probably it's nothing important, but I'm writing it just in case...
PS3: I use gstreamer as backend (it was installed by default)

I tried to dig deeper in the issue searching on internet and I found these interesting suggestions:

PS: not already tried, I will soon do it; does someone know other solutions anyway?
PS2: just to be precise, since I had the classic 'blue fase' issue on youtube, I unchecked the 3d acceleration option on the flash player options (right click on youtube videos) as suggested in various forums; could this have affected this issue?

Update: seems like the new flash upgrade, now version 11.2.202.236, has solved the flash audio problem (so I can now get rid of the asound.conf workaround).

No luck for the audio noise, though...I can't find a solution!

Is it normal?
I'm not an expert on this kind of things (in case you haven't noticed yet...) but could this rather be an alsa problem than a pulse one? also, just in case, this is the ouput of "equo search alsa" to show which packages are installed or not (for example, alsa-headers are not installed, not sure if this could affect the issue though):

Seems to be these days.

Have you tried killing the PulseAudio daemon, to see if the problem lies with PulseAudio or with ALSA?

Also, have you tried running ALSAMixer from the Konsole/Terminal with the card number specified?:

Of course, I use alsamixer from console every time and of course I use the "-C" option since I've got another card (an nVidia HDMI wich I have manually disabled).

About the first question...I don't know how to do it from terminal! I tried to kill it using the system activity (ctrl+esc) but a new pulseaudio strarts again and continues to scratch. Did you mean using another method? if so, how?

Update: I also tried the "daemon.conf" workaround, but no luck! well...I've only tried some values, I don't know if some range of number could possibly solve it.

By the way, I noticed that I still have my /etc backup from the previous installation, where my audio never gave me problems. I've already checked all the files in /etc/pulse and they're exactly the same as this new installation's. Could there be any interesting file to examinate under my old /etc ? what do you think?
(ps: just to recap...I have sabayon on this laptop since version 5.4 (or 6...can't recall) and everything has always been smooth even until one month ago when I upgraded to sabayon 9; then, due to a stupid problem caused by me, I decided to reinstall everything from scratch some weeks ago...so this is why this sound problem seems strange to me since it used to work flawlessly even with sabayon 9 upgraded in the previous installation)
