Repeated installation failures [Solved]

Postby ratcheer » Sat Jul 07, 2012 17:59

I hope I have gathered enough info to start a vaild thread. I am attempting to do a fresh installation of Sabayon_9_amd64_G.iso on new partitions on a gpt-partitioned disk. It has failed about 9 times and the output detail is always at approximately the same point, a little after the fglrx driver appears to have successfully loaded. It appears to possibly have something to do with my Ralink RT3062 wireless card and the rt2800pci driver. I intend to rerun the installation and write down and hand copy the last messages in the detail and add them to this thread. The failure notification gives an option to Save the log, but since the installation is a complete failure, where does it save it?

I verified the md5 sum of the downloaded iso, and my DVD-writing software verified the checksum of the written DVD.

I have attempted installation with my external USB drive disconnected and using cheat codes "noddc res=1024x768 refresh=60 opengl=ati" and "nomodeset". None of these attempted workarounds have made any difference, whatsoever.

My PC is a Gigabyte Z68A-D3-B3 with an Intel i5-2500K CPU @ 3.3 gHz, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, ATI HD6770 video card, and a Seagate 1 TB SATA-III disk drive. I will also run some of the info discovery techniques noted in the "Don't start a new thread unless..." thread and add the info.

The same PC has good installations of Ubuntu 12.04, Arch Linux, Siduction Linux, and Sabayon 9 CoreCDX (upgraded from Sabayon 8 ). I am attempting to install the full Gnome release of Sabayon in order to move away from using Ubuntu as my main distro. Lightweight installations are great, but sometimes you just need all the tools in order to get things done.

Re: Repeated installation failures

I managed to get part of the Anaconda log to pastie.org. The site would not accept the entire log, but this should contain the relevant info:

http://pastie.org/4216436

Here is the very last part of the output:

If more info is needed, please let me know what I can do to provide it.

Tim

PS - This would seem to be the problem: "rc[5552]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f2f4815b124 sp 00007fffe22f8250 error 4 in libc-2.14.1.so[7f2f480f4000+182000]". But I would have no idea how to go about fixing it.

Re: Repeated installation failures

Postby ratcheer » Sat Jul 07, 2012 23:11

Ok, this was my fault and I apologize. I checked the md5sum of the downloaded iso and it matched. However, I copied the file to my external drive before writing it to DVD, because it was on my minimal Sabayon CoreCDX installation which does not have DVD writing software. I just now rechecked the md5sum of the file on the external drive and it does not match.

I am re-downloading the iso, now. I am marking the thread Solved and going away with egg on my face.

The rest of the story - After re-downloading, Sabayon 9 Gnome installed, successfully. It is a beauty!

Odd. I had already done so. Did I do it incorrectly?

Tim

PS - Ok, I see that I did do it incorrectly. Why so picky? I guess there is some automated software that tracks them, or something.

Consistency so it looks proper and organized versus people making a mess out of titles. All caps is bad net etiquette, been like that forever. Nothing worse than going to a forum and seeing ###${{}}(-)!!!!!^^___%CAPS<> characters all over the place.
