Best filesystem [Solved]

Postby harmon » Fri Jun 29, 2012 14:35

Hi!
My next notebook - the first one without Windows - has a Crucial m4 SSD. What would be the best filesystem to format?
Still ext4?

Here's a thread I found helpful with regard to setting up an SSD:

viewtopic.php?f=57&t=26323&p=149124&hilit=ssd#p149124

anomaly65 obviously has a preference for xfs over ext4...

You may also like to consider NILFS, see http://www.nilfs.org/en/, which is suitable for SSD's, see the 'Links' page http://www.nilfs.org/en/links.html for info.

I have successfully been using NILFS for some of my partitions (on HDD's) and USB memory devices for over one year without problem, especially for backup partitions as deleted files are not overwritten and are recoverable until NILFS cycles around the partition again - see the official documentation for a better and accurate description.

For me, ir pure a personal choice.
some file systems are faster for small files, others for large files, some are good in areas with electrical failure, btrfs is new etc...
i normally use Ext4 ou Reiserfs for booting partitions and xfs or jfs for /home and backups. Reiserfs is interesting for me, because in my City, electrical power failures are common, and reiserfs is stronger for not broken easy and have powerfull journalling system.
al least in my somewhat old HDD, the btrfs was unstable and diffcult to correct errors.

Hi!
First: during the last days I could not connect to this forum (the only webside!)
Server problem?

Thank you for the good advice! I will read through all the pages and report after having installed SL on my new notebook.

Yes, according to Fabio, were server problems.
