New User Accounts Not Functional [Solved]

Postby dmh53 » Mon Jun 25, 2012 17:14

I have also posted this in the newbie area but I have not received any help as of yet. I am getting desperate. The general install goes OK but when I try to create a second user account I am unsuccessful. I have done a clean install of Sabayon 9 gnome, updated the files with Entropy and have checked the md5 checksum. All looks well until I create a second user account. The account creation process works as one would expect but when I log in to the newly created account I get a mostly blank desktop. I cannot log out, I have to power off and reboot. I can right click and pull up a terminal window but nothing else. I have reinstalled 3 times an I have the same result each time. I have tried the same process with Linux Mint(two versions) and Ubuntu and the user accounts are OK. The problem seems only to occur with the Sabayon 9 setup. I have also tried upgrading the kernel to 3.4 and used the terminal window and superadduser all to no avail. I have no clue as to how to correct this. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Doug

What groups did you allocate to the new user? All the same as you?

I did not create any other user groups. I used whatever the default is. I originally went to system settings/user accounts unlocked the account settings and then created a new user. Everything seems to work until I login to the newly created account. I have the three round Sabayon Icons on the left top corner and an otherwise blank desktop. Thanks again for your help. Doug

Use superadduser and follow the procedure (including ascertaining user groups) given in the example in my post: Re: How to add a new user in Xfce?.
