My installation experience

Postby sabas » Sun Apr 29, 2012 13:28

Hi,
it's the first time I try another distro other than Ubuntu for daily use on my pc, and I choosed Sabayon (also, an Italian distro <3 ).
(Incidentally, this is also my first post, glad to be here!)

I wanted to share two notes:
1) regarding the Grub configuration step: I didn't followed the stepbystep guide and I choosed to install grub without doing the configuration step. At the reboot, I found myself in the grub shell cause it hadn't generated the grub.cfg file I assume. I opted for the seperate /boot partition. So I rebooted into live and retook the configuration step. My suggestion is to add a message that clarify this step :)

2) At first boot it didn't find the user I created. I explain better: at login prompt I wrote my credentials and confirmed, but it game me an error (I don't remember it, sorry :( ) and went back to prompt, it wasn't an incorrect password alert, but seemed an error of permissions of the home.. I logged in as root, deleted the administrator account and made a new one.

edit: pc is an acer 5750g, sabayon is the last one, I made a live usb instead of cd with the pendrivelinux tool.

Hi,
I installed Sabayon 9 Gnome three days ago and no troubles so far. I did all partitioning in the installer and just three partitions and on a single hdd. The second issue might be caused by a changed keyboard layout..
