Can't get KDE working

Postby Kitfer » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:36

From the looks of it a couple of modules haven't loaded

Code: Select all
(EE) Failed to load module "synaptics" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "intel" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I have installed xorg-server, kde-meta and kdm through equo, simple question, how do I fix this?

Do you have the Synaptics driver (xf86-input-synaptics) installed?
Do you have the Intel video driver (xf86-video-intel) installed?

If not, use Ctrl-Alt-F1 (or F2 to F6) to get a VT (virtual terminal) a.k.a. console, then log in as root user and install the missing packages:

Code: Select all
equo install xf86-input-synaptics xf86-video-intel

That's X Windows Desktop Manager. You need to edit /etc/conf.d/xdm and change

Code: Select all
DISPLAYMANAGER="xdm"

to:

Code: Select all
DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm"

Kdm was already specified, what else could it be?

What did you start off with before you installed KDE?

Try following the procedure for fresh installs given in the SL Wiki article on Entropy: Fresh Install - What to do?.
