How to install a package before equo update?[Solved]

Postby BHReach » Sat Jun 09, 2012 11:35

I just installed Sabayon 9 Spin-Base amd64 (took about 5 minutes).

I need ip (from iproute2 pkg) to configure my wi-fi network interface. I cannot update or download repositories without an Internet connection so I need to install iproute2.

How do I do it?

Here you can find full details:
http://packages.sabayon.org/show/iprout ... 5,standard
so something like
Code: Select all
wget http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/sabayonlinux/entropy/standard/sabayonlinux.org/packages/amd64/5/sys-apps:iproute2-3.1.0~0.tbz2

cd to download location
than
Code: Select all
equo install sys-apps-iproute2-3.1.0~0.tbz2

Of course you will download and move the file over I assume, but you should get the idea from above.

Profit!

I don't know where to put the package?

It used to be here:

/var/lib/entropy/client/packages/packages/amd64/5/

But for Sabayon 9 Spin-Base, that directory does not exit.

I don't know if Spin-Base is different from other versions or package location changed for Sabayon 9.

For my Sabayon 8 XFCE, the packages are here (using locate command):

/var/lib/entropy/client/packages/packages/amd64/5/sys-apps:iproute2-2.6.38~0.tbz2
/var/lib/entropy/client/packages/packages/amd64/5/sys-apps:iproute2-2.6.38~0.tbz2.mtime

How will equo find it if it isn't in the correct location?

Wait, let me go get my Bang Head Here on Desk sticker

Did you read anything I posted? You are directly invoking the file as I said, cd to the directory where ever you have placed the file that you downloaded and issue the command equo install sys-apps-iproute2-3.1.0~0.tbz2

Do you see what you are doing? You are telling equo to install sys-apps-iproute2-3.1.0~0.tbz2 directly, you are not giving the command equo install iproute which tells equo to use normal paths to install it.

I don't know how to make it any more easier for you. Maybe I should type it in really large letters?

[*]Download the file from link above and copy it to the Destination Computer. Place the file anywhere you wish
[*]open terminal, cd to the spot you placed the file
[*]issue the command equo install sys-apps-iproute2-3.1.0~0.tbz2

or if have a GUI you can even right click on the file and choose open with other application and select rigo.

Now try doing it before posting another question

Sorry for misreading your post. I was expecting you to tell me where to copy the file so when you typed cd my brain saw cp but not any place to copy it. I guess it was because I did not know equo could directly install a package from a tbz file. Also, it was early Saturday morning and my brain wasn't clicking on all cylinders yet (lame excuse).

Thanks! It installed OK once I realized what to do. I also discovered that Sabayon has the Gentoo net-setup program which makes setting up your network from the command line very easy.

net-setup wlan0.

It's not the ideal way to do it, but to get setup for something like in your case, it works fine. Once you run equo update/upgrade, all the relative paths should be in place.
