Hi. does he want something like this ? --> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=923286

pleasse see http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/articles/prompt-magic.xml

for yor friend :

Edit user bash profile in Ubuntu

Check bash profile in Ubuntu (as default)
Code: Select all
$ echo  $PS1

Change bash profile as gentoo bash colors
Code: Select all
$ export PS1="\[\033[01;32m\]\u@\h\[\033[01;34m\] \w \$\[\033[00m\]"

If it works , you can set permantely in his user profile

Code: Select all
$ nano -w ~/.bashrc

Code: Select all
export PS1="\[\033[01;32m\]\u@\h\[\033[01;34m\] \w \$\[\033[00m\]"

and logout/login

I think this will be fine
