Chrome Startup Time

Postby nomad » Thu May 24, 2012 22:44

Since installing SL8K x64, I noticed the Chromium browser have been taking much longer to start up. I cannot even tell if it is starting up in the background or it is somehow broken so I usually hit the icon at least a couple times, then all of a sudden the browser will open right up. The box is up to date (green). I do not have a lot of bookmarks -- 9. Once opened, speed and everything else is normal -- fast. But it is the long start up time, or seemingly 'broken' that require several attempts, that is confusing.

Found something odd with Chrome. The right click action to copy/paste freezes the browser. There is a history of this issue. After a few force quit and restart, Chrome will start working as expected again.

Indeed that right click issue with the Chromium browser locking up has returned. If Chrome is opened and another application, something like a text editor (Kate) is used with the right click copy/paste action, then the same will work fine with Chrome, but if I try to use it right after Chrome is opened, then the browser simply locked up. Moving between tabs is fine, just nothing else will work.

I don't use chromium but have tried it on my SL 8 K x86 machine (fully updated but running kernel 3.2.0). I have no problem with either of the issues. It starts quickly and select, right click, copy of text doesn't cause any problem. Perhaps it's an amd64 problem.

I managed to duplicate the problem but it was inconsistent. I never heard of the problem before. I noticed that 'Ctrl+C' have the same effect and the problem often occurs if I tried to do the right click action soon after the browser opened.
