"Permission denied" when I try to log in as su?[Solved]

I'm using Sabayon 8 with Gnome. Today I tried to log in as "su" and I got the message "Permission denied." I made sure I was getting the password correct, and besides, it usually tells me if I get the password incorrect. I've never seen this "Permission denied" message.

The only thing I can think of that may have caused this is I added my user to the vmware group on my machine. I also updated a few days ago but I've used "su" since then without any trouble. I installed VMware. Beyond that though I'm clueless.

BTW, a strange detail of this is that I can still log in as administrator via the GUI. I just can't log in via Terminal.

maybe you deleted yourself out of the wheel group? To check type:

$ groups yourUserName

If this is the case, login as root and add yourself to the wheelgroup with

# gpasswd -a yourUserName wheel

That is EXACTLY what happened, but I don't know how it happened. I haven't deleted myself from any groups. Thanks though! I will try that!
