Can't Connect to WEP Protected Network

I'm on Sabayon 8 with Gnome 2.3.1 and I can't connect to a WEP protected network. The connection tries for a while and then it just gives up. I tried connecting via iwconfig but it just times out. I can connect fine if there's no password. What else can I do? Taking off the password isn't an option, it's not my network.

Ok I'm back home now so I have a little more freedom with the network.

I downloaded WICD and tried each of the WEP options available. All of them tried to connect for a little while and then stopped and said "not connected".

I tried starting WICD from the command line to see if there was an error or anything that could be causing this to happen. This is all I got:

You need to do more than that if you want to try Wicd instead of NetworkManager. See the SL Wiki article HOWTO: Replace NM with WICD. However, I wonder if you're experiencing the same problem that I had on one of my machines running Gentoo: Wireless not working (Atheros ATH5K) [Solved]. Do your /var/log/messages errors look like those I posted in that Gentoo Forums thread?

So should I try properly installing wicd?

Anything is worth trying. You can easily revert to NetworkManager if Wicd makes no difference (which I suspect will be the case) by reversing the procedure in that SL Wiki article.

What is your hardware and what modules are loaded? Please post the output of the commands lspci, lsusb and lsmod run as root user in a Terminal window.
